French Art Deco Hand Forged Andirons with Stepped Heart Design
French Art Deco Hand Forged Andirons with Stepped Heart Design
An unusual pair of original French Art Deco andirons dating from the 1930s. Their distinctive design combines architectural elements with influences from the Skyscraper and Arts and Crafts movements.
The hand forged metal has a warm bronze toned finish and an elaborate openwork pattern composed of heart shaped curves. These forms rise in a stepped arrangement, creating a decorative effect that is both geometric and sculptural. The arched feet and curled upper details complete their beautifully balanced design.
Also known as firedogs, these andirons can be placed behind a variety of fireplace screens and used to support firewood. They would also make impressive decorative elements in a fireplace when not in use. The pair remains in original condition with an attractive period patina.
