A unique fire screen , hand wrought in the French style but with a design borrowed from an ancient Roman sun dial and a pattern often referred to as "the English Sunrise". This stylized sunrise was such a popular motif in the Art Deco Era - found as a decorative element on a wide variety of objects: doorways, gates, glass, woodwork and yes, fire screens.
On this screen the rays of the sun are punctuated by circles of iron that contain the Roman Numerals . Can you tell what time it is? Well of course! Time to relax! Time to curl up by the fireplace with a good art book.
