French Art Deco Ceramic Nude Sculpture
Item #2349 SOLD
This beautiful French art deco sculpture in white ceramic craquelure (crackle finish) is a classic nude, in a natural languid pose . Although unsigned it does bear a stamping showing that it was made in France and our best “educated guess” is that it is the work of Charles Lemanceau who did many nudes of this type and many stylized animals in high “deco” interpretation always using the craquele technique. It also bears the influence of more ancient Greek sculptures but is decidedly French from the early 1920s.
The features are so well rendered and this sculpture looks as good when viewed from the back as the front. Consider using it on a formal dining table as a centerpiece to appreciate it from every side.
