French Art Deco Pochoir Holiday Card with Skiers, Circa 1920s to 1930s
French Art Deco Pochoir Holiday Card with Skiers, Circa 1920s to 1930s
A charming French holiday card created using the traditional pochoir technique, in which color is applied by hand through carefully cut stencils over a printed design. This labor intensive process produces unusually rich, saturated colors and crisp decorative details. Original examples such as this are increasingly difficult to find.
The winter scene depicts a stylish couple carrying skis through a snow covered mountain landscape. Particularly appealing is the fashionable woman dressed in trousers, an adventurous and distinctly modern image for the 1920s and 1930s.
This is an original folded card with a blank interior, allowing a personal message to be added for a very special holiday greeting. It could also be matted and framed as a decorative work of art, particularly for a skier or collector of vintage winter imagery.
We have assembled a collection of these beautiful French cards and display them each year as part of our holiday decorations.
