Ceramic Figure of Nijinski

Colorful large figure 16.5″ tall manufactured by Rosenthal and marked on the bottom Bavaria. This is an outstanding piece with very rich colors and detail. Signed C. Hotzer-Defanti, who worked for Rosenthal from 1918 -1927 designing some very important and colorful figurines inspired by costume design. This pieces is said to depict the Russian dancer Nijinski and the Ballet Russe. In another reference is is also referred to as the Siamese or Korean dancer. This is a very famous piece, depicted in the ‘Ceramique Art Deco’ book by Edgar Pelichet. There is much gold and enamel coloring in the outfit and shows a little buddha at his feet. Fantastic face and detail, circa 1919. It is also referenced and pictured in the 125 year anniversary exhibition of Rosenthal designs in 2004.
