Art Deco China Service for 12 Silver and White

Item #2502 SOLD

This elegant Art Deco set of fine china from Czechoslovakia circa 1930 is a service for 12 with so many extras! The high quality porcelain is embellished with silver on a sleek, octagonal shape and all pieces are in outstanding condition. It is comprised in  the European tradition with double the dinner plates, wide soup or pasta bowls, salad/dessert plates a graceful tea set, serving platters and covered tureens and the highly sought after gravy boat.

There are 78 pieces in total.

The “MZ” Austria mark was used originally by Moritz Zdekauer in his porcelain works at Altrolau, Austria between 1884 and 1909 during which time he exported to America, Holland and France. In 1909, the company was purchased but C.M. Hutschenreuther, employing the name Altrolau Porcelain Factories but continuing to use the MZ mark until 1945 . The company was nationalized after World War II.

The clean, streamlined approach is not typical of MZ production which is known for more elaborate floral and gilded decoration, but the exquisite quality of the porcelain and the refined touch of silver is a great example of the kind of innovation in design that was done in Eastern Europe in the first half of the 20th Century.
