Prohibition Era Art Deco Bar Cabinet

Item #2065 SOLD

This original, prohibition era bar is full of surprises!   One trend in the 1920s and early 1930s was to design home furniture that had “secret bars” within them. At first glance, they might appear to be a record player, a silverware chest (called a cubiertero in Spanish) a side table or an unassuming  cabinet.

But turn the keys to open them up and they are designed to unfurl, to “swing out”, literally and figuratively…with shelves to house glassware and cocktail accessories and racks to hold your liquor (you can hold your liquor can’t you?) .

This is just that kind of piece.  We loved it and purchased it for its auburn Brazilian Rosewood, its two tone wood  handles and mother of pearl knobs and gently rounded edges. What a treat to find all the makings of a beautiful home or office bar inside!  This could be our little secret!!!!
