1935 Brussels International Exposition Art Deco Commemorative Diploma
1935 Brussels International Exposition Art Deco Commemorative Diploma
An original commemorative diploma presented at the 1935 Brussels International Exposition, one of the important European exhibitions of the Art Deco era. The certificate was awarded to participating artist J. M. Canneel and is signed by exposition officials, documenting his involvement in this significant international event.
The composition is beautifully balanced, with stylized classical figures arranged symmetrically around the central award panel. Bold Art Deco lettering appears in both French and Dutch, while architectural and ornamental details reflect the modern design language promoted throughout the exposition.
The diploma has recently been reframed with a sophisticated treatment chosen to complement its colors, scale, and period character. It is especially meaningful because a sculpture by J. M. Canneel is also currently available in our collection, creating a rare connection between the artist’s work and his documented participation in the 1935 exposition.
