Atelier Borgila Swedish Art Deco Sterling Silver Bowl, circa 1930s

An exceptional Swedish Art Deco sterling silver bowl by Atelier Borgila, dating from the 1930s. Beautifully made and recently professionally polished, the bowl displays the refined craftsmanship and strong architectural design associated with this important Stockholm workshop.

Its broad dimensional rim is decorated with a repeating pattern of deeply modeled curved forms separated by raised vertical divisions. This sculptural border creates a dramatic contrast with the smooth, reflective interior of the bowl. The underside carries clear Atelier Borgila signatures and Swedish silver hallmarks.

Substantial in both weight and appearance, the bowl could be used as a dining table centerpiece, serving bowl, fruit bowl, or purely as a decorative object. Its impressive scale and bold geometric detailing give it a strong presence in both Art Deco and contemporary interiors.

Atelier Borgila was founded in Stockholm in 1921 by Swedish designer Baron Erik Fleming. Originally trained in Germany as an engineer and architect, Fleming discovered silversmithing through his early experiments with metalwork and quickly became one of Sweden’s most respected silver designers.

Fleming received important commissions from the Swedish royal family and was appointed court silversmith to King Gustav V. Silver designed by Atelier Borgila was exhibited at Chicago’s 1933 Century of Progress International Exposition, helping establish the workshop’s reputation beyond Sweden. Works by Atelier Borgila are now represented in important museum and private collections.
