One of the most iconic figural cocktail shakers of the Art Deco era, the celebrated Napier Penguin was designed by Emile Schulke in 1936. Its whimsical streamlined form has made it one of the most recognizable and desirable designs in vintage cocktail culture. This is an original period example, not a reproduction.
The penguin features a detachable top, while its hinged beak opens to reveal the original cork stopper. The underside is stamped Napier Pat. with a patent number. This example retains its original components and has been professionally restored and re-silvered, presenting beautifully while preserving the integrity of the original shaker.
A rare and important piece of American Art Deco barware and an exceptional addition for the advanced cocktail shaker collector. Examples of the original Napier Penguin have achieved significant prices at auction, including a sale at Christie’s in 2013 for more than $8,000.
