French Art Deco Polar Bear Bookends on Red Marble
A charming pair of French Art Deco polar bear bookends dating from the 1930s. Each unsigned metal sculpture depicts a smiling polar bear seated upright with its paws resting against the central book support. The bears retain their original brown patina, which gives the figures depth and highlights their rounded, stylized forms.
The sculptures are mounted on richly veined red marble bases with matching upright supports. Their playful expressions and substantial marble construction make them both decorative sculptures and practical bookends. Presented in very good original condition.
