Art Deco Spotted Leopard Bookends on Wood Bases
Art Deco Spotted Leopard Bookends on Wood Bases
A striking pair of Art Deco bookends featuring stylized spotted leopards poised across stepped wooden supports. Cast in spelter and finished with an attractive antique copper patina, the animals display the streamlined form, muscular movement, and fascination with exotic wildlife that characterized decorative sculpture from the Art Deco period.
Their unusual climbing posture gives the figures a strong sense of motion and personality. Unsigned and preserved in original condition, these bookends may be enjoyed as functional desk or library accessories or displayed individually as small decorative sculptures. Dating from approximately the 1920s to the 1950s, they are appealing examples of animal sculpture from the great era of French Art Deco design.
