Art Deco Carved Wood Parrot Bookends by G. H. Laurent
Art Deco Carved Wood Parrot Bookends by G. H. Laurent
A charming and highly stylized pair of Art Deco carved wood bookends by G. H. Laurent, circa 1925 to 1930. Each bookend depicts a cubist parrot carved in warm mahogany, set on a contrasting rosewood base. The birds have a wonderful sculptural presence, with rounded bodies, elongated tails, and simplified geometric details that capture the playful sophistication of the Art Deco period.
The pair is in excellent original condition and signed G. H. Laurentbeneath the tail. Laurent is known for his finely carved animal subjects, including marabouts, birds, ducks, roosters, and other decorative figures that appear regularly in auction records.
