This rare and historically significant dinnerware set, titled Les Fontaines, was produced by Johnson Bros.of England specifically for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris—the landmark event that gave birth to the term Art Deco. Part of the company's premium "Pareek" line done as a unique commemoration of the exposition.
The set features a delicately stylized and iconic fountain motif at the center of each piece, surrounded by vibrant enameled floral sprays in turquoise, ochre, and umber tones. The crisp ivory glaze is typical of the Pareek line, known for its fine semi-porcelain finish with hand painted embellishment. Each piece is clearly marked: "Les Fontaines" – Paris Exposition 1925, bearing the Johnson Bros. crown hallmark.
