Pair of Custom Wrought Iron Bookends in the French Art Deco Manner of Edgar Brandt
A striking pair of custom wrought iron bookends, inspired by the great French Art Deco metalwork tradition of the 1920s and the celebrated designs of Edgar Brandt. These pieces were made exclusively for our inventory by one of our skilled artisans, with careful attention to form, weight, finish, and decorative detail.
The design has a strong architectural feeling. Curved waterfall forms rise from the base and create a sense of movement, while the stylized animal figures bring a playful but sophisticated character to the composition. The overall effect suggests the French decorative arts of circa 1925, where ironwork, geometry, and sculptural ornament were brought together in a distinctly modern way.
The bookends are finished in a gilded bronze patina, giving the surface a warm metallic tone. The finish highlights the texture of the hand worked iron and gives the pair the feeling of period French fer forge design. They would be a handsome addition to a desk, library, office, or display shelf, especially for someone who appreciates Art Deco metalwork and the influence of Edgar Brandt.
