Outstanding French Art Deco chandelier by P D'Avesn
Item #1502 SOLD
This is a wonderful light utilizing a circle motif showing something unique in a fixture of this kind: A true integration of metal and glass. There is no question that the metal frame design was made specifically for this glass. It is wonderful to see that the artistry of the piece by Pierre D’Avesn is truly complete. In my mind, he is one of the great French glass artists and very under valued in the world of collectibles. So many people know the name “Lalique” but we feel D’avesn deserves more fame!
I have had a few very outstanding glass pieces by this artist, but this one is quite exceptional. The French iron or “fer forge” is simple and delicate with an intertwining circle motive, not only in the lower shade but also repeated all the way up the shaft of the fixture, finishing in a wonderful glass canopy you rarely see in these original period pieces. The glass has a rather opalescent color and quality.Just the thing for that “perfect place”.
Classic Art Deco lighting by the well known French designer Pierre D’Avesn. D’Avesn designed some of Lalique’s most well known pieces including the “Serpent” and “Tourbillon” vases. His resume includes stints as designer and Manager at Daum, Sevres and Verlys. He started producing his own pieces in 1927. Pierre D’Avesn is an artist/designer whose work is of the highest quality.
