Bridge Floor Lamp with Mica shade in the style of Deskey or Rohde
American Art Deco Bridge Floor Lamp with Mica Shade
This unusual American Art Deco bridge floor lamp has the kind of modernist design that immediately suggests the influence of Donald Deskey or Gilbert Rohde. The form is clean, purposeful, and highly architectural, with streamlined metalwork balanced by warm wood elements. It is still being researched, but the quality of the materials and the strength of the design make it a very uncommon light fixture.
The lamp has a great visual presence without being overly ornate. The metalwork gives it a machine age character, while the wood softens the design and makes it easier to place in an interior. The bridge arm gives the lamp both function and style, allowing it to work beautifully as a reading lamp next to a chair, sofa, desk, or seating area.
We have adapted the socket with a brand new nickel finish fitting, which includes an on and off switch. The socket is slightly adjustable, adding practical flexibility while preserving the clean look of the lamp. The mica shade is a high quality addition and works especially well with the design, giving the piece a warm period feeling when lit.
This is the type of Art Deco floor lamp that is difficult to find. It has strong American modernist character, fine proportions, and an unusual combination of materials. It would be an excellent addition to an Art Deco living room, library, office, lounge, or collector’s interior.
