Austrian Art Nouveau Jugendstil Library and Office Suite, Seven Pieces, Circa 1910

Each piece is carefully made with rounded forms, beveled glass, fine inlaid decoration, and a high level of cabinetmaking throughout. The book and display cabinets are especially impressive, with glass doors that reveal fully finished interiors. The drawers and shelves are made with the same care as the exterior surfaces. Every door and drawer includes its lock and key, with tasseled key details that add to the formal character of the suite.

The inlay work is one of the great features of this set. A Greek key pattern runs across the wooden surfaces, while stylized floral motifs and mythological figures give the suite a rich decorative presence. These details are elegant without being heavy, and they show the strong influence of Austrian Jugendstil design at the beginning of the 20th century.

This complete suite would make a remarkable formal study, library, office, or private collecting room. It is rare to find a complete group of this age, and rarer still to find one with this degree of detail and original character.
