Stromberg Carlson 231 R Chairside Tube Radio with Bluetooth, 1937
Stromberg Carlson 231 R Chairside Tube Radio with Bluetooth, 1937
A beautifully restored 1937 Stromberg Carlson 231 R chairside tube radio, combining exceptional Art Deco design with modern Bluetooth capability. Stromberg Carlson radios are admired for their strong construction, quality engineering, and reliable performance, and this rare “Half Round” chairside model is an especially attractive example.
The cabinet has a wonderful Zephyr inspired form, with a curved profile, handsome wood tones, and a very rare sky blue mirrored glass top. The front of the cabinet is particularly striking, with a beautifully finished combination of light and dark woods that gives the piece both warmth and architectural character. This is not only a fine performing radio, but also a highly decorative piece of Art Deco furniture.
Produced in 1937, this seven tube, four band radio includes standard broadcast, two shortwave bands, and police band reception. It retains its original 10 inch speaker, original knobs, and original dial scale. The blue glass mirror top is in excellent condition, and the cabinet restoration has been done to a very high standard.
The radio has also been adapted for modern listening, allowing you to enjoy music from an iPhone, smartphone, iPod, record player, computer playlist, Pandora, Apple Music, or other digital source. With Bluetooth capability and a 1/8 inch auxiliary adapter, this Stromberg Carlson gives you the best of both worlds: the convenience of modern digital music played through the warm, rich sound of a classic tube amplifier.
In excellent restored condition, this rare Stromberg Carlson chairside radio is a beautiful example of 1930s American Art Deco design and would make a dramatic addition to a living room, office, library, or music room.
Additionally, this radio has been fitted with a 1/8 inch adapter which will allow you to use this with your iPhone, smartphone, iPods or record player. Access your old vinyl, or tune into Pandora, Apple Music, or the playlist on your computer to provide the tunes and use the Bluetooth connection to bring the warm, bright, analog sound of a tube amplifier to any music or recordings you choose. The quality of the sound is excellent – just ask any guitarist since these kinds of tube-based amps are still being made and used today. You will have the best of “digital” and “analog” combined.
