Longwy Art Deco French Cloisonné Enamel Ceramic Vase, Circa 1930s
Longwy Art Deco French Cloisonné Enamel Ceramic Vase, Circa 1930s
This exceptional large scale Longwy vase is a striking example of French Art Deco ceramic design from the 1930s. Its dramatic tiered form rises from a faceted geometric base, with repeated triangular motifs in deep cobalt blue, turquoise green, cream, and gold. The pattern moves rhythmically down the entire body of the vase, following and emphasizing its architectural stepped silhouette.
Longwy is celebrated for its richly colored cloisonné style enamels and extraordinary precision of execution. Here, the sharply defined geometric decoration is particularly successful, with elongated triangles intersecting the form at each level and creating a strong vertical composition. The crackled cream ground provides a beautiful contrast to the saturated enamel colors, while gold detailing adds another layer of refinement.
Unusually large and visually commanding, this is a rare and distinctive Longwy Art Deco vase and an important piece for a serious collection. It remains in excellent original condition with no restoration.
