Longwy Art Deco French Cloisonné Geometric Gourd Vase, Circa 1930s
Longwy Art Deco French Cloisonné Geometric Gourd Vase, Circa 1930s
This large French Art Deco ceramic vase by Longwy features a striking gourd shaped form decorated in brilliant shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, cream, green, and golden brown. Repeated floral and leaf motifs encircle the lower body, creating a dynamic pattern against the vase’s finely crackled cream glaze.
Deep blue lines divide the elongated upper section into bold geometric panels that flow downward into pointed turquoise details. At the base, a triangular motif echoes the angular decoration throughout the vase, beautifully balancing its rounded form.
The combination of geometric structure and colorful floral ornamentation is an especially distinctive example of Longwy pottery from the 1930s.
Longwy is renowned for the precision and richness of its cloisonné enamel decoration, both of which are clearly evident in this beautifully executed vase. It remains in excellent original condition with no restoration and bears a large Longwy factory mark on the base.
