Longwy Primavera Art Deco Ceramic Charger Signed Olesseruez
Longwy Primavera Art Deco Ceramic Charger Signed Olesseruez
This impressive Art Deco Longwy ceramic charger measures over 16 inches in diameter and reflects the inventive spirit of Atelier Primavera during one of the great periods of French ceramic design. The charger is signed by the artist Olesseruez and also bears the Atelier Primavera stamp, a rare combination of markings that makes this example especially desirable.
Primavera was the influential design studio of the Parisian department store Les Grands Magasins du Printemps. During the 1920s and 1930s, the studio commissioned and collaborated with important artists and leading ceramic houses to create objects with a distinctly modern character. Its work brought serious design into the world of fine retail, offering pieces that were artistic, usable, and forward looking.
Longwy was among the most important ceramic houses associated with this period. Its earthenware production became known for bold color, strong decorative surfaces, and modernist patterns that appealed to the new collector of the Art Deco era. Primavera also worked with notable artists such as René Buthaud, and its collaborations helped define a more adventurous direction in French decorative arts.
This charger is a rare model because it carries both the artist’s signature and the Atelier Primavera mark. These two details are seldom found together and add greatly to the importance of the piece.
The design features an elegant still life of fruit in a bowl with a pitcher outline, crafted in earthenware ceramic with a classic crackle glaze. It also includes an Art Deco motif of two female nudes and a deer, symbolizing grace and harmony. The refined palette of black, taupe, pale yellow, and burnt sienna, combined with finely stylized outlines, accentuates the dynamic form, making this piece a true masterpiece of the Art Deco period.
