René Lalique “Inséparables” Opalescent Glass Clock, circa 1926
René Lalique “Inséparables” Opalescent Glass Clock, circa 1926
A rare French Art Deco opalescent glass clock designed by René Lalique. Known as Inséparables, or “Lovebirds,” the design features four beautifully modeled parakeets perched among flowering branches. The model is also sometimes referred to as Quatre Perruches and was introduced circa 1926. René Lalique catalogue reference
The molded glass has a luminous blue opalescence that changes dramatically with the surrounding light. Lalique’s exceptional attention to detail can be seen in the layered feathers, long tails, delicate flowers, and sculptural relief surrounding the clock face.
The glass is signed “Lalique France” in script along the bottom. The original Swiss mechanical clock movement was made by Didisheim Goldschmidt and is set within a brass toned bezel. Its stylized Arabic numerals and fine hands complement the decorative glass beautifully.
This clock remains in excellent condition and combines three of Lalique’s most recognizable themes: opalescent glass, birds, and the natural world. A particularly elegant and collectible example of French Art Deco glass.
