Edgar Brandt Ginkgo Biloba Fer Forgé Chandelier with Daum Nancy Glass Shades
Edgar Brandt Ginkgo Biloba Fer Forgé Chandelier with Daum Nancy Glass Shades
An exceptional French Art Deco fer forgé chandelier by Edgar Brandt, designed with finely worked ginkgo biloba leaves, berries, scrollwork, and four original Daum Nancy tulip glass shades. The ironwork is signed E. Brandt, and each glass shade is signed Daum Nancy France, confirming the collaboration between two of the most important names in French decorative arts.
The wrought iron construction is remarkably detailed, showing Brandt’s mastery of hand forged metalwork and his ability to transform natural forms into sophisticated Art Deco design. The ginkgo leaves and berries are beautifully integrated into the structure, giving the chandelier movement, depth, and a strong sculptural presence.
The four Daum glass shades were made specifically for this fixture, with openings precisely fitted to the iron mounts. The glass has a textured outer surface with subtle gold flecks that create a warm opalescent glow when illuminated. The close tolerance between the glass and iron shows the extraordinary coordination of materials, design, and craftsmanship.
Edgar Brandt is considered one of the most important French designers of the early Art Deco period. His work helped define the decorative language of the 1925 Paris Exposition, and his pieces remain among the most desirable examples of French Art Deco metalwork. While Brandt is well known for lamps, screens, tables, paperweights, bookends, and his famous Cobra lamp, this chandelier is a particularly rare and complete example.
Recently acquired in France, the chandelier is original, complete, and has been professionally rewired and engineered for immediate and long term use.
