Czech Art Deco Cut Crystal and Ruby Enamel Vanity Set

This four-piece Czech crystal vanity set pairs sharply cut rectangular glass with a distinctive ruby red enamel overlay stippled in a pattern of clear polka dots. The style is closely associated with the workshops of Nový Bor, Bohemia, and in particular with the glassmaker Karl Palda, whose ruby and geometric enamel work from the 1930s remains among the most collected Czech Art Deco vanity glass. The set includes three bottles with faceted cut-glass stoppers in graduated sizes, along with a fourth bottle fitted with its original metal atomizer top. Each piece shares the same wave-cut base and banded ruby enamel, giving the group a cohesive, tailored look typical of a complete dressing table suite from the period.

The stippled dot pattern on this set is a variation on the bolder cheetah-spot and solid-band enamel designs more commonly seen on Palda glass, suggesting either a related workshop or a less common decor within Palda's own output. The sharply beveled rectangular form and the wave-cut base, however, are hallmarks of the style, and the combination of ruby red with clear crystal was a signature Czech treatment during the peak years of this glasswork between roughly 1933 and 1938.

Vanity sets in this style were produced using glass blanks supplied by Bohemian glasshouses, with the cutting and enameling finished at specialized workshops in and around Nový Bor. That division of labor allowed for the crisp geometric faceting seen on each stopper here, paired with a hand-applied enamel pattern that varied from piece to piece within a broadly consistent decorative vocabulary.

This set holds strong appeal for collectors of Czech Art Deco glass, particularly given its completeness and the graduated sizing of the three stoppered bottles alongside the matching atomizer. Its bold color and geometric form also make it a striking display piece on its own.
