Here is a stunning Art Deco bronze in perfect classic pose. It has all the features and details of an exceptional art deco design. Le Faguays was a prolific designer during this period but this particular piece is exceptional. It really stands out. Featured and listed in Bryan Catley's book on Art Deco and other Figures, this example was chosen because of the superb quality and detail. This piece reflects movement, details in the hair, the skirt, the hands, the feet and all the thymuses as well. Her face is beautiful and no doubt this is one reason it is such a popular example of La Faguays work. This piece has been estimated to sell in auction for upwards of $12,000-$14,000 dollars. Typically it is signed on the marble base, in this example, the base has been replaced in the original treatment of a very beautiful black stepped marble.

Pierre Le Faguays (Fayral), was a prolific and versatile avant-garde French sculptor whose works greatly influenced the styles of the 1920's and early 1930's. His dancing girls are delicate creatures and have lovely, sensitive faces (in bronze and tinted ivory) equal to those of the better known specialists-Chiparus, Preiss, Icart and Lorenzl. Le Faguays was born in Nantes , France and became famous for the originality he gave his dancers, many of which were inspired by the statues of Tanagra. He gained a medal of honor for his work in 1927. He was a best friend of Max Le Verrier and the Le Verrier foundry made most of - if not all of his pieces. Fayral really caught the beauty and elegance of the female form with great talent and this is a wonderful example.
