Georges Gori Verdigris Bronze Draped Nude, French Art Deco, circa 1925–1930

This elegant French Art Deco bronze sculpture by Georges Gori captures a timeless female figure in a stylized pose characteristic of the period. Bare-breasted and serene, the figure stands with her arms raised behind her head, her long hair cascading in rhythmic waves that echo the vertical folds of the draped skirt encircling her hips. The piece is finished in a rich verdigris green patina and mounted on a black marble base, enhancing its classical silhouette and Deco refinement.

Cast in France between 1925 and 1930, the sculpture reflects Gori’s sensitivity to form, proportion, and surface rhythm. The back view reveals just how masterfully the folds of fabric intertwine with the flowing lines of the hair, creating an almost sculptural mirroring of texture and movement. The attention to anatomical detail is subtle but precise, lending the figure an understated sensuality.

Georges Gori, of Italian heritage, was active in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1929, where he earned wide acclaim. In 1931 he was awarded a bronze medal for his contributions to the decorative arts. This piece is signed “G. Gori” on the base along with the inscription “Made in France.” We’ve handled other examples of his work, and this figure remains one of the most refined and classical in tone. The condition is excellent, with its original patina beautifully preserved.
