French Art Deco Diana Greyhound Bronze by Ignacio Gallo Sculpture

Item #2522 SOLD

Art Deco Figure Of Diana The Huntress by Inacio Gallo. This sculpture is in bronze and sits on a multi colored portoro marble base. Signed I Gallo to rear edge of marble. Classic Diana figure with subtle cold painted bronze treatment giving the figure more dimension. Her face is beautiful, hair styled in an art deco bob, nice details on the hands, fingers bow and all. We currently have other bronze statues by this important artist.

Ignacio Gallo was born in Valladolid, Spain in the 19th century. He worked from 1910 – 1935 specialising in statuettes of bathers, dancers, nudes and pagan goddesses. His creations were made at the Marcel Guillemard Foundry which has an interesting history of its own.

Guillemard  was the chief of design and decor for Primavera, the stylish shops of the French Department Store Printemps. He also had an important role at the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Decorative and the Gallo sculpture was completed in that era and in the style of work that was featured at the Exposition.
