Art Deco Style Peruvian Carved Mahogany Indigenous Head by Arias
Art Deco Style Peruvian Carved Mahogany Indigenous Head by Arias
An original carved wood Peruvian Indigenous head in the Art Deco style, executed in richly toned mahogany. The sculpture has a serious, intense expression, with strong facial modeling and a stylized headdress worked with geometric and triangular details that give the piece its modernist character.
The form appears inspired by Indigenous Peruvian or Inca imagery, interpreted through the bold lines and simplified structure associated with Art Deco design. The carving has presence, weight, and a compelling expression, making it both decorative and sculptural.
This piece has an interesting personal history. It eventually found its way to Israel, where it was purchased on our behalf before joining our collection. The condition is excellent, with a deep polished surface that brings out the warmth and richness of the mahogany wood.
Signed or attributed to the artist Arias, this carved mahogany head is a distinctive example of South American inspired Art Deco design and would make a strong accent on a desk, pedestal, console, or bookshelf.
