Bronze nude dancer sculpture by Belgian artist Marnix D’Haveloose, circa 1930. Cast in bronze with a rich black patina, this elegant female figure is presented in a classic Art Deco pose, standing with her arms fully extended and her body modeled with grace, balance, and strength. The sculpture is signed on the base.
Marnix D’Haveloose, 1885 to 1973, was a listed Belgian artist whose biography and work are documented in important Belgian art references. His sculpture reflects a refined understanding of anatomy, movement, and physical presence. While Belgian Art Deco artists are often less widely known than their French contemporaries, this bronze clearly shows the same seriousness of form, artistry, and technical quality found in the best European sculpture of the period.
The casting and foundry quality are especially impressive. The figure has a lifelike presence while still retaining the stylized elegance associated with Art Deco design. We have handled several works by D’Haveloose using this same model, each exploring the relationship between dance, the female form, and sculptural movement.
This is an important and beautifully executed Art Deco bronze, combining classical influence with the modern spirit of the 1930s.
