Art Deco Style Cubist Oil Painting "Shadow" by Pascal Jarrion
Art Deco Style Cubist Oil Painting "Shadow" by Pascal Jarrion
"Shadow" is an original oil on wood panel painting by French artist Pascal Jarrion, created in 2025. The composition centers on a profile portrait rendered partly in gold leaf, set against a layered arrangement of muted planes and a faint, sketched second figure emerging from the background.
Pascal's distinctive visual language draws on Cubism, portraiture, and Art Deco, dividing the face into contrasting sections of gold and silvery gray while grounding the lower composition in a bold plaid patterned form. The interplay between the solid, gilded profile and the loosely outlined figure behind it gives the painting its title and its quiet sense of presence and absence.

Gold plays a central role in the painting, catching light differently depending on the angle of view and giving the profile an added sense of weight and formality against the surrounding muted palette. Soft grays, sage green, and deep charcoal build out the background, while a warm rust and cream plaid pattern anchors the lower portion of the composition with unexpected texture and color.
The faint outlined figure to the right, rendered almost entirely in line rather than solid form, reads as a shadow or echo of the central portrait, reinforcing the sense of duality suggested by the painting's title. Two flat white circular forms in the lower composition add a quiet, graphic counterpoint to the more detailed passages of pattern and gold leaf.
Measuring 20 by 16 inches, "Shadow" is a refined and quietly luxurious painting well suited to a study, entryway, or gallery wall, and is presented double matted in a dark wood frame. The painting is signed by Pascal Jarrion at the lower left.
