Art Deco Style Cubist Oil Painting "L'Assortiment" by Pascal Jarrion
"L'Assortiment," meaning "The Assortment," is an original oil on wood panel painting by French artist Pascal Jarrion, a still life centered on a bowl of vivid lemons resting on a scalloped white cloth. Two tall bottles or vases rise behind the fruit, their curved silhouettes anchoring the upper portion of the composition.
Pascal's distinctive visual language draws on the still life tradition of early Cubism, breaking each object into overlapping planes while allowing the bright yellow lemons to remain the clear focal point against a more muted, earthy backdrop. The result balances geometric structure with an unexpectedly vivid burst of color and light.
Warm rust, terracotta, and deep charcoal build out the background, while olive green and ochre define the two vessels standing behind the fruit bowl. Against this restrained palette, the lemons read as the clear high point of color in the composition, their bright yellow surfaces catching the light with confident, painterly brushwork.
The scalloped white cloth beneath the bowl adds a soft, decorative note to an otherwise angular composition, its rippling edge softening the transition between the geometric still life above and the flat plane of the tabletop below. This gathering of fruit and vessels into a single fractured arrangement connects directly to the language of early twentieth-century Cubism, a tradition Pascal continues to draw from in his own contemporary work.
Measuring 24 by 18 inches, "L'Assortiment" is a bright and well-balanced painting suited to a dining room, kitchen, or any interior calling for a colorful Cubist still life, and is presented in a silver-toned wood frame. The painting is signed by Pascal Jarrion at the lower right.
