French Silver Art Deco Centerpiece and Mirrored Tray

Item #3324

A silver and mirrored centerpiece, elaborate and ornamental from the late 1920s. The great metalwork was created by Orfevrerie Dilecta, a French company that specialized in these pieces (often called Jardinieres). They began production in the Art Nouveau Period, later evolving into the geometric floral patterns of the Art Deco era. Between 1906 and the 1930s every fashionable home would have had something like this filled with fruit or flowers to grace a formal dining table, buffet, or mantle.

It is a thing of beauty on its own, but it does come to life by adding something as simple as a floating gardenia or a full cornucopia of grapes and roses.

Interior markings read Orfevrerie Dilecta, Made in France, Depose no.404. Orfevrerie literally means” jewelry, gold work or silver work”. Dilecta is the name of the firm, and 404 refers to the style.
