French Art Deco Silver Centerpiece and Mirrored Tray
Item #2230 SOLD
This silver and mirrored centerpiece is the absolute height of ornamental Art Deco from the late 1920s. Richly plated metalwork that was created by Orfevrerie Dilecta, a French company that specialized in these pieces (often called Jardinieres). They began production in the Art Nouveau Period, later evolving into the geometric floral patterns of the Art Deco era. Between 1906 and the 1930s every fashionable home would have had something like this filled with fruit or flowers to grace a formal dining table, buffet or mantle.
What makes this centerpiece so special is that the original glass liner is still intact without any flaws or chips. It gracefully echos the scalloped design of the metalwork. The silver is in exquisite, polished condition. The mirrored tray is perfect .
The next time you entertain, place this in the middle of your dining suite and simply float one big blossom and a few green leaves. How elegant, how lavish and how economical all at the same time!
Interior markings read Orfevrerie Dilecta, Made in France, Depose 64 . Orfevrerie literally means ” jewelry, gold work or silver work”. Dilecta is the name of the firm, and 64 refers to the style. And SO much style!
