Art Deco Silver Champagne Cooler with Bakelite Handles by Quist

An Art Deco Champagne Cooler/ Ice Bucket in heavy silver-plate by Quist has a wonderful Modernist style. The detachable Bakelite handles make a wonderfully decorative addition to the sleek design as does the stepped bottom of the piece. The distinctive silver maker's mark bears a star and the name Quist which represents the Esslingen company  "F.W. Quist Metallwarenfabrik" of Germany. The company's roots go back to 1866 but in 1890 Friedrich W. Quist took full ownership of the company from other partners. They are well known for plated silver pieces, many of them for export to other countries and are considered a competitor of the prolific German Company W.M.F and there are similiarities in the quality and styles of production.
