Art Deco Wooden Penguin Bookends
Item #3099
Hand carved pair of wooden Art Deco bookends with a trio of penguins on each. There is something both classical and whimsical in anything that features the images of penguins .These birds are rendered in bas relief of dark wood against a background of light colored mountains of ice . The “Pinguinas” are from Argentina which is home to world’s largest Magellanic penguin colony. We estimate the age of the bookends to be from the 1930s-1940s and we like to think of bookends as “useful” sculptures – decorative and with a purpose!
