Czech Art Deco Cut Crystal and Black Enamel Perfume Set

This three-piece Czech crystal vanity set features a bold stepped, trapezoidal form banded in alternating black and silver enamel stripes, with an etched circular medallion on the front of each piece. The style is closely associated with the workshops of Nový Bor, Bohemia, and in particular with the glassmaker Karl Palda, whose geometric enamel and cut crystal designs from the 1930s remain among the most sought-after examples of Czech Art Deco vanity glass. The set includes two bottles with faceted glass stoppers and a third fitted with an atomizer top and squeeze bulb, all sharing the same striped enamel banding and stepped silhouette. Bottles of this shape and decoration are typically found in the five to six and a half inch range, consistent with the sizing here.

The black and silver striped enamel banding seen on this set is one of the signature decorative treatments associated with Karl Palda's peak production years in the 1930s, when the firm produced some of its most inventive geometric designs. The stepped, trapezoidal silhouette and etched sunburst medallion on each piece reflect the same architectural sensibility that defined so much of Art Deco design during the period, translated here into a small, tactile object for the dressing table.

Vanity sets of this kind were produced using glass blanks supplied by Bohemian glasshouses, with cutting, etching, and enameling finished at specialized workshops in and around Nový Bor. That combination of processes allowed for the crisp, symmetrical patterning and sharp faceting seen across each piece in this set.

This set holds strong appeal for collectors of Czech Art Deco glass and vanity items, particularly given its cohesive design and the presence of a matching atomizer alongside the two stoppered bottles. Its striking graphic pattern also makes it a compelling display piece independent of any collecting focus.
