Handmade French Art Deco Style Fer Forgé Iron Console with Portoro Marble Top
Handmade French Art Deco Style Fer Forgé Iron Console with Portoro Marble Top
This exceptional, handmade iron console is a unique, one-of-a-kind work, custom-made exclusively for us and conceived as a true statement piece rather than a decorative accessory. Crafted in the finest French style fer forgé tradition, the ironwork displays a remarkable level of precision and artistry, combining strong architectural geometry with elegant ornamental detailing. Every element was forged by hand, resulting in a sculptural presence that reflects both craftsmanship and artistic intent, qualities rarely found in contemporary ironwork. The console is crowned with a slab of the finest Portoro marble and hand touched gilded patina.
In its conception and execution, this console aligns closely with the tradition established by master French ironworkers such as Edgar Brandt and Raymond Subes, whose finest works elevated iron from utilitarian craft to architectural art. Like Brandt’s most celebrated commissions, the emphasis here is on bold geometry, disciplined symmetry, and a commanding architectural presence rather than surface decoration alone. At the same time, the refined hand forged detailing and controlled ornament recall the work of Subes, particularly his custom commissions for French interiors where iron served as both structure and sculpture. As with these historic French masters, this console was conceived as a bespoke creation rather than a production object, designed to integrate seamlessly into an important interior while asserting its identity as a standalone work of art. The combination of artisanal fer forgé craftsmanship and luxurious Portoro marble places the piece firmly within the lineage of early twentieth-century French custom ironwork, where rarity, material quality, and artistic intent defined the highest level of decorative arts.
