French Art Deco Cocktail Flag Holder by Sudre, Paris – Sailor with Enamel International Glass Markers

A rare and whimsical French Art Deco bar accessory by Sudre, Paris, this chromed metal and enamel piece brings both charm and functionality to cocktail service. Designed in the 1930s or early 1940s, the set features a cheerful French sailor rendered in polished metal with hand-enameled detailing, shown hoisting a series of miniature international flags. Each flag serves as a colorful glass marker for parties and drinks, with vibrant enameled representations of various countries. The flags are attached to a tall chromed pole that extends upward from a rich Macassar ebony wood base. A rope element at the base subtly reference nautical themes.

The back of the sailor is engraved with “Sudre,” and the base is marked “Depose,” denoting its registered design status. Known for his limited-run handcrafted barware, Sudre operated a boutique atelier in the 3rd Arrondissement of Paris, and his pieces are now sought after for their rarity and personality. The condition is overall very good, with only minor enamel loss to a few flags that does not detract from the visual appeal or functionality.
