1936 Zenith Model 7-S-28 Art Deco Tombstone Radio with Bluetooth
This impressive 1936 Zenith Model 7-S-28 tombstone radio combines dramatic Art Deco styling with exceptional performance. The substantial wood cabinet features a striking arrangement of angles, contrasting veneers, and architectural details, centered by Zenith’s iconic oversized multicolored dial.
One of the larger Zenith tombstone models, the radio is equipped with a full range eight inch dynamic speaker that produces clear, rich sound. Its seven tube chassis is considerably less common than many other Zenith radios from the period, making this a particularly desirable model for collectors.
The individually illuminated bands display different colors and include Zenith’s A, B, and C automatic band indication. The advanced two knob tuning system was introduced on Zenith’s seven tube models in 1936. The larger inner knob provides coarse tuning, while the smaller outer knob operates the precise vernier “Split Second” tuning control. This same arrangement was used on Zenith’s most sophisticated radios, including the celebrated sixteen tube Stratosphere models.
A discreet 1/8 inch auxiliary input has been installed, allowing the radio to connect directly to a Bluetooth receiver, smartphone, computer, tablet, record player, or other compatible audio source. Apple Music, Pandora, personal playlists, vintage broadcasts, podcasts, and recorded music can all be enjoyed through the warm analog sound of the original tube amplifier.
This restored Zenith Model 7-S-28 offers a rare combination of substantial Art Deco design, advanced 1930s radio engineering, and modern Bluetooth listening capability.
