French Art Deco Palisander Sideboard Cabinet with Chevron Design and Mirror
French Art Deco Palisander Sideboard Cabinet with Chevron Design and Mirror
This stunning French Art Deco sideboard cabinet has a powerful visual presence, with a dramatic V shaped chevron pattern carried through the cabinet front and reflected again in the beveled mirror above. The design captures the luxurious side of Art Deco, where a relatively streamlined form is elevated through rich materials, refined surface treatment, and bold geometric detail. The carved wood panels flanking the mirror and the fluted carving along the base add depth, rhythm, and architectural character.
The cabinet is beautifully finished in richly figured Palisander wood, with shaded lacquered surfaces that echo the deep carved chevron border. This treatment gives the piece both movement and sophistication, balancing strong geometry with elegant craftsmanship. The interior has refinished shelves, making it practical for storage while preserving the cabinet’s refined decorative quality.
The Bakelite and chrome handles add another important period detail. Bakelite was an early modern resin material that was considered fashionable and luxurious in the 1920s, before becoming widely used in the 1930s. When paired with chrome, as seen here, it gives the piece a particularly desirable Art Deco character and a crisp modern accent.
This cabinet is an excellent size, substantial enough to make a statement, but not oversized. It would work beautifully as a sideboard, buffet, bar cabinet, or elegant storage piece in a living room, dining room, entry, or library. With its chevron pattern, beveled mirror, Palisander wood, carved details, and Bakelite and chrome hardware, it is a highly stylish and functional example of Art Deco cabinetmaking.
