Teco Pottery Art Deco Statue Floor Lamp by Fritz Albert and Fernand Moreau
Item #2142 SOLD
A rare and important pedestal lamp, circa 1920 with hieroglyphics and image of Egyptian maiden. The lamp was designed by Fritz Albert and the pedestal by Fernand Moreau manufactured at the famous American terracotta and ceramic company Teco Pottery (founded in 1886 by William Day Gates). It has also been attributed to Northwestern Terra Cotta company, where both men worked. It is also known that additionally Frank Lloyd Wright did work there and you can see some of his “Prairie School” influence on the base and lamp design.
The influence of Egyptian and Mayan fantasy gives these pieces a multiple of scenic views to consider. The creative stylistic approach to triangle and round shapes add a fluid view, adding both cats and owls, to enhance this mythic view. You get the sense of hieroglyphics as the casting is fantastic with great detail and depth to the over-all design allowing the edges and shadows to cast their own perspective. This beautiful lamp could be separated and used as a table lamp and the pedestal for another decorative object.
The shade is also very special, original glass shade from “Amsterdam School of Design”! We do not see these shades often in the USA and it adds a dimension of color and detail that gives a new perspective to this important design.
