Katona French Art Deco Iron Table Lamp with Schneider Glass Shade
Katona French Art Deco Iron Table Lamp with Schneider Glass Shade
An exceptional and rare French Art Deco iron table lamp, signed Katona on the base. The ironwork is of very high quality and belongs to the same period of French fer forge design associated with Edgar Brandt, Raymond Subes, and Paul Kiss. The form has a strong architectural presence, with beautifully worked iron supporting a mushroom style spotted glass shade signed Schneider.
This lamp is a perfect marriage of two important names connected to the Art Deco movement. The iron base has the strength and refinement of French decorative metalwork from the 1920s, while the Schneider glass shade adds color, texture, and atmosphere. Together, they create a piece that is both functional and sculptural. It would look excellent on a desk, console, mantle, or side table, and could easily stand on its own as a work of industrial iron and glass art.
The lamp dates to around 1925, placing it at the beginning of the Art Deco period in Paris. That was the year of the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, the event that helped define the style we now call Art Deco. This piece reflects that moment beautifully, combining craftsmanship, modern design, and artistic ambition in a single object.
The lamp has been recently rewired and is ready to use. It retains a vintage original Bakelite on and off switch, preserving an important period detail while allowing the lamp to function properly in a modern setting.
