Modernistic Sandpiper Sculpture in the style of Hagenauer
Item #2266 SOLD
Simply stylized figures such as this Sandpiper are most often attributed to the Hagenauer Werkstatte. It has a Mid Century point of view, but in reality they were produced decades before and their clean lines have held an enduring appreciation among collectors.
With only a hint of detail, the long polished nickel beak, the ebonized body and the spindley legs instantly convey the “essence” of this sea bird.
Other sculptors followed this school in creating works like this – including Bosse, Bermann and Aubock. What they all have in common is producing their art in Vienna and using clean, almost abstract lines.
