Crackle Glazed Ceramic Art Deco Woman on Antelope Cubist
Item #2234 SOLD
This stunning French crackle-glazed cubist figure is compelling and unique. The stylized female form sitting on top of the stylized antelope is supported by a sculpted geometric base. This piece has all the earmarks of a great European inspired image, the figure could have been designed or inspired by Hagenauer of the Austrian school. There are model numbers on the bottom, rather hard to read: #2268 with letter “I”above it.
It is a wonderful sculpture with lots of geometric, angled design, along with a faceted base which could be used as a flower frog with all of the openings around if filled with flowers. Considerable work was put into this figurine and is finished with a crackle clear glaze. which was a popular technique for animal and figural statues during the Art Deco period: leaping greyhounds, squirrels, rabbits and elephants. OH MY!
