Czech Glass Art Deco Vase Style by Karl Palda
Item #3454 SOLD
Czech Glass Art Deco Vase Style by Karl Palda in a trapezoid or a truncated modernist shape with geometric design. A Czech Vase of thick etched and tinted crystal glass in high Art Deco Style, this is an outstanding example of Karl Palda’s technique of combining delicate etching with bold, geometric panels of color in a very unusually shaped vase. Black and ruby red alternating with clear designs make this especially dynamic. Signed etched on the bottom are “Halda Palda” & “Czechoslovakia”.
We often point out that every country had unique expressions of the Art Deco era and Czechoslovakian/ Bohemian glasswork was such an important contribution to the technique of layering hues and cutting glass designs.
Bohemian glass has a long history of excellence, beginning in 1200 and continuing in contemporary times. The region that produces it is rich in chalk and potash and lead which contributes to the clarity and brilliance and the methods of etching and tinting have been perfected over time, evolving into Art Nouveau and later Art Deco styles with enameling and engraving.
