Art Deco Boch Keramis Vase with Oiseaux de Paradis by Jan Wind, Belgium c. 1925
Art Deco Boch Keramis Vase with Oiseaux de Paradis by Jan Wind, Belgium c. 1925
This exceptional Art Deco porcelain vase was produced by Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière, Belgium, during the celebrated Charles Catteau era and is decorated with the dynamic Oiseaux de Paradis design by Jan Wind. The vase features an elegant ovoid form, one of the signature silhouettes of the Keramis workshop, allowing the exotic bird motif to flow seamlessly around the body with a strong sense of rhythm and balance.
The polychrome decoration is executed using enamel slip over a glazed porcelain ground, displaying rich tonal contrasts and finely controlled detailing that define the best of Belgian Art Deco ceramics. Stylized birds, scrolling foliage, and geometric framing elements reflect the modern decorative language of the mid nineteen twenties while retaining a hand finished quality prized by collectors. The piece is numbered 1130 and bears the Keramis Boch Frères La Louvière stamp, consistent with documented production methods of the period.
Vases such as this played a key role in the Belgian decorative arts revival, blending industrial ceramics with artistic experimentation under Catteau’s leadership. Works decorated by Jan Wind remain particularly desirable for their bold compositions and strong graphic presence. This vase captures the optimism and forward looking design spirit of the interwar years and stands as a refined and highly collectible example from one of Europe’s most important Art Deco ceramic ateliers.
