This charming set of six very tiny French Art Deco greeting cards, produced by J. Cambray in Paris circa 1925, features an illustration of a "Colonial Dame" rendered in Art Deco Style. Just as we have a fascination with the 1920s, during that era there was a fondness for the era of another time!. Rendered in black ink via letterpress and then vividly hand-colored using the pochoir stencil technique, each card captures the distinctive palette and precision that made pochoir so prized during the 1920s and early 1930s.
Pochoir, meaning "stencil" in French, was a labor-intensive process requiring teams of women to hand-apply each color layer—a method favored by high-end Parisian illustrators, fashion houses, and publishers during the Art Deco period.
