Art Deco Female Bronze by Paule Bisman Serenite
Paule Bisman Bronze Sculpture “Serenite”
Paule Bisman’s Serenite is a refined and beautifully modeled Art Deco bronze that captures the quiet elegance and composure so admired in European sculpture of the period. This reclining female nude was produced in a highly limited edition of only twelve examples, and the present work is numbered 4 of 12, adding an important element of rarity and collectibility. Bisman, the Belgian sculptor and painter who lived from 1897 to 1973, brought to her work a graceful balance of classic form and modern restraint, and that sensibility is fully present here. The figure rests in a poised and confident position, her elongated body and calm expression giving the sculpture a feeling of stillness, intimacy, and cultivated sophistication.
The bronze has a rich verdigris patina that enhances the contours of the form and gives the surface a soft, luminous presence. It is mounted on its original raised marble base with a beveled edge, a presentation that adds weight, elegance, and authenticity to the piece. Particularly notable is the quality of the sculpting itself. The hands, fingers, feet, and facial refinement all show the work of a highly skilled artist with a strong command of anatomy and composition. The signature on the bronze is especially beautiful and further reinforces the artistic integrity of the work. Also accompanying the sculpture is the original catalogue, an important addition that illustrates other works by Paule Bisman and includes a full page devoted to Serenite, providing valuable period documentation and enhancing the appeal of this exceptional example.
