Grand Art Deco Bronze Sculpture of a Woman and Greyhound by Ignacio Gallo
Item #3338 SOLD
Iconic, large-scale bronze sculpture by Spanish artist Ignacio Gallo depicting a sleek Art Deco woman…with an even “sleeker” Greyhound dog looking adoringly at his owner “Girl with Greyhound”. It is a graceful pose, beautifully rendered. The base is a “sandwich” of bronze and marble and there is a clear signature impressed on the base. Original patina with vivid colors in remarkable condition.
Ignacio Gallo was born in Valladolid, Spain in the 19th century. He worked from 1910 – 1935 specializing in statuettes of bathers, dancers, nudes, and pagan goddesses. His creations were made at the Marcel Guillemard Foundry which has an interesting history of its own.
Guillemard was the chief of design and decor for Primavera, the stylish shop of the French Department Store Printemps. He also had an important role at the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Decorative and the Gallo sculpture was completed in that era and in the style of work that was featured at the Exposition.
